The High Plains Museum’s exhibit Connecting Lives Sharing Culture: 100 Years of AFS is closing January 11th. The closing reception for the exhibit will be held this Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. During that time the HPM will feature Japanese dancing, activities for ages 4-13, and a chance to see objects from around the world.

Throughout the months of August to December 1,777 people have experienced the story of AFS. Visitors have learned about flags from around the world, been fascinated by Japanese yen, and helped us celebrate Christmas around the world. Visitors have also shared their own experiences with AFS during the exhibit. One story shared was how a former faculty member from GHS got in touch with a former AFS student when visiting her home country. They met up and the AFS student showed the faculty member around her country. Another family remembered how the English language could be a tricky language to master. The family was hosting a young man from France and he was amazed at how everything was so chip here. It took the family a moment to catch on that he actually meant cheap. The Girl Scouts also benefit from AFS; every year the troop asks an AFS student to come and talk to the girls.

It has been a great few months for this exhibit. AFS really does connect our lives and shares cultures with people all over the world. The relationships made through AFS are often times lifelong and add new members to our families and friends. Come celebrate the ending of this terrific exhibit on January 11 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM with us.
